International Student Tutor Program
Tokyo Gakugei University is home to nearly 300 international students from a wide range of countries and regions. These students come to the university with diverse academic goals and study periods.
The International Student Tutor Program enables Japanese students to support international students in both their academic studies and daily lives, helping them make the most of their experience at the university.
What Do International Student Tutors Do?
Tutors provide support in a variety of ways, including assisting international students with their Japanese language studies and helping them navigate administrative procedures and daily life in Japan.
They also promote intercultural exchange through activities such as introducing local attractions, helping students become familiar with shopping and daily living, preparing meals together, and sharing the customs and cultures of their respective countries.
Tutor appointments are generally for one semester. Tutors receive a stipend of ¥1,280 per hour through the International Affairs Office for eligible tutoring activities, subject to a maximum payment limit.

How Can I Become a Tutor?
There are two ways to become an international student tutor. One is to be recommended by a faculty member serving as an academic advisor to an international student. The other is to register directly with the International Affairs Office as a prospective tutor.
Tutor registration is accepted twice a year, in April and October. Students interested in becoming a tutor are encouraged to contact or visit the International Affairs Office for further information.
